What Is An Energy Performance Certificate (E.P.C.)?

An E.P.C. (Energy Performance Certificate) is now a legal requirement when homes are being sold. It is a part of the Home Information Pack.

The certificate grades a property from A to G much the same as an energy rating on a white goods utlity. It also provides recommendations on how homeowners can make small changes to improve the energy efficiency of their home, such as using energy saving light bulbs, installing loft insulation or introduce a more efficient heating system, to name a few.

An accredited Domestic Energy Assessor will visit a home; carry out an assessment, collecting information such as construction type, method of heating, level of insulation and floor area. This information is used to calculate a grade for a property, and an EPC can be issued.
